Story Editing Course Outline
The System
Your course will focus first on Fictionary’s story editing system. You’ll learn what it is and why it works.
The Story Elements
Then, you’ll go deep into the three most important elements of every story: plot, character and setting. This is where the real magic happens. You’ll learn how to power-up each of these areas, using the 38 Fictionary Story Elements.
The Visual Insights
You’ll learn how to use Fictionary’s visual insights to show your clients the impact of your work. As a writer follows your feedback, their story arc will be improved and the story map will help them track and understand when their story is ready to share.
Summary Letters
Finally, you’ll learn how to write a clear, effective summary letter that helps your clients understand the “why” behind your feedback.
Learn the Techniques that Power All Successful Commercial Fiction
Storytelling is an art form, and just as the great painters must learn to mix colours and capture light, great writers must learn the writing techniques hidden in the books they love.
There are practical techniques that authors have been using for millennia to keep their readers turning pages. A great hook at the end of a chapter will leave your reader wanting more. Clear stakes make your reader understand what drives your character. There are so many tried and tested ways that authors make their stories more engaging and their characters more compelling. The StoryCoach certification will help you deliver these secrets to your clients in a clear, systematic way. They will thank you for it.
Meet Your Instructors
Kristina Stanley
With the explosion of self-publishing, there is an increased demand for talented fiction editors. Specifically, “story editors” —structural
editors for novels. I spent years working with writers only to hear they were getting low quality story edits. Then I worked with editors to understand why writers weren’t getting what they needed. And now, my dream is to help editors and authors work together to create powerful stories. As an author and an editor, I care deeply about this. So deeply that I created Fictionary.
When editors use StoryCoach software, clients gush at their level of expertise and word-of-mouth spreads about their exceptional editing services. This is your chance to grow your editing business as technology evolves.

I am a story geek. Fairy tales, and fantasy, and YA are my preferred genres. I garden, on a smallholding, in the UK. I tend to over 300 apple trees, over 200 rose bushes, and heaps of greenhouses. Gardening is a lot like editing, the patience, the nurturing, the kindness are transferable skills that both a gardener and an editor need. There is also magic that happens when weeding in the garden, which is much like the magic that happens when editing a story.
Cost
Total cost to participate is $1098. This includes $699 (discounted from $1999) for the instruction and course materials and $399 for an annual StoryCoach subscription.
It’s an investment in yourself and your career.
