What is a Protagonist?

Are you having trouble identifying who the protagonist is in your story?

When I ask a writer who the protagonist is, the answer varies. Sometimes the answer is there are two protagonists. Sometimes it’s more than two.

The difficulty with these answers is most commercially successful novels have one protagonist. The reader must connect with a protagonist and know who to cheer for in the story. If they don’t, there is a good chance they won't finish reading the book.
